Durham Region, local area municipalities, utilities, and educational institutions have collaborated to leverage federal funding to support implementation of electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

Description

Durham Region, local area municipalities, utilities, and educational institutions have collaborated to leverage federal funding to deploy locations across the Region. This initiative focuses on implementing charging stations in multi-unit residential buildings, public spaces (such as recreation centres, town halls), workplaces, support light-duty municipal fleets, and on-street parking.

The Region has been successful in leading four collaborative submissions to Natural Resources Canada for up to 50 per cent funding under the Zero Emission Vehicle Infrastructure Program (ZEVIP). These first two rounds of funding have supported the installation of 102 chargers, of which 40 belong to the Region, already installed. Subsequently, Rounds 3 and 4 have secured an additional 259 chargers, of which 103 belong to the Region. The installation of these chargers is scheduled for 2024 and 2025, respectively.
